 About Us

What is North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels?

North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit, volunteer-based service organization dedicated to providing nourishing food to homebound residents without regard to age, race, sex or religion, living in the cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, NY.

Our network of drivers, servers, community partners, volunteers, donors and advocates are a formidable force against neglect and malnutrition of our senior citizens.

Our vision is to eliminate hunger and isolation, and to foster independence of senior citizens as long as safely possible.

Meals on Wheels can provide service during a long-term disability or a short-term convalescence.. For those who have been homebound for a long time, the delivery of a hot meal in the middle of the day may be the only connection they have with the outside world. For others, temporarily sidelined for a few days or weeks, the arrival of a delicious meal can be a precious lifeline that allows them to get on their feet again. The program is also available to individuals who are homebound and unable to prepare or shop for food.

NT Meals on Wheels, has both the approval and the acceptance of the Niagara County Health Department.

The meals are delivered between 11:30 am - 12:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Our Meals

Each client receives one or two meals per day. (See Meal Plans for details.)

Each of our meals provides at least 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for adults. The meals are generally low in fat and prepared with little or no salt added. Food is delivered hot and ready to eat in fiberboard containers.

Hot and cold meals are delivered to clients five days a week, 52 weeks of the year. These meals are prepared in the North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels  kitchen to accommodate dietary needs, and then delivered by a dedicated rotation of 160 volunteers.

Many Twin City residents rely on North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels to deliver delicious hot meals up to five days a week. It can be the perfect solution for anyone confined to home because of illness, injury, or frailty. Our friendly, trustworthy volunteers will deliver a well-balanced meal right to the client’s home. There are a variety of menus, specially selected by professional dietitians to help the client maintain good nutrition and avoid unhealthful ingredients.

Funding

North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels receives no government meal subsidies. The fee that clients pay covers only part of the expenses of the meal cost. In the face of increasing costs, we must turn to contributions and fund-raising from our neighbors and friends to make up the difference and help us to expand our reach into the community to handle the growing need for assistance.
